The philosophy of the camp follows a structured training regimen. The regimen is based on Arthur Lydiard's training schedule. The goal is to have a large aerobic base. When a runner has a large base they are able to perform the anaerobic workouts and recover more quickly. An analogy is making large deposits in a bank, so when one needs to make a withdrawal there are no worries if there are sufficient funds.
The camp resembles a typical race week, after the long base period has been completed. We do one track session a week, then a hill fartlek two days before the meet. The up-tempo Thursday workout keeps the legs from feeling sluggish on race day.
The goal of the camp is to encourage long-term development. The accumulation of miles over years serves to make you stronger.
