Big Racing Weekend
Andy Mazur got the weekend started off to a great start by finishing in fourth place in the Nittany Valley Mile with a 4:58.11. It was an 8-second improvement from his race two weeks ago.
Next up was Miesha Marzell in the invitational section in of the 5000m. She kept the fourth place feeling going as she turned in strong time of 17:06.27.
After Miesha, Artie Gilkes toed the line in the men's invitational section of the 5000m. After his strong performance in the First Night 5k, Artie raced to a 9th place finish in 14:55.80.
Now to Saturday's racing which included an array of fast 3ks and miles at both places. At the Bison Open, the Deep Six Racing team had a strong day in which many athletes turned in season's bests performances. Watch the videos and see the results from the team. Since there are videos to watch, I will not spoil you with the results from their races.
Back to the Penn State meet. Rebecca Donaghue kept her impressive season by bringing home a victory in the women's invitational 3k. She ran 9:22.46 to win by 17 seconds.
Dan Mazzocco also turned in stellar perfromance in the invitational 3k by running 8:16.76 for 5th place.
Ryan Olkowski had a strong second day of the heptathlon and just missed his facility record with a score of 5724 to win the event by almost 600 points. With his effort he qualified for the US Indoor Combined Events Championship on March 3-4. The event is being held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The performance of the day was turned in by Matt Lincoln as he won the mile in 3:59.39. It was his first sub-4 performance.
