Ted Ginn Sr.

This story is a great read about Ted Ginn Sr. He has created a steady pipeline of talent to college football and the NFL. His son, Ted Jr., is a game changer and can take it to the house every time he touches the ball. But Ted Sr. does something far more valuable than score touchdowns, he is a life changer, who sees the bigger picture and wants to make sure his kids get every opportunity that is available to them so they can maximize their future.

Tegenkamp Talks: Back on Track

Matt Tegenkamp discusses what really happened in the Rieti 3k, and why he stepped off the track. And he also gets back on track with by establishing a new pr in the 1500 (3:35.96) in Berlin. My favorite part of his journal entry was, "Moral of the story is that no one should ever chase a time. If you get into the race and compete well, the times always follow!" It is the same thing Coach Groves told us over and over.

South Girls Foot Locker Pre-season Favorites

I have been wondering why Nichole Jones was not listed as a national contender for the Foot Locker title. After reading the South regional preview, my questions have been answered. She graduated high school a year early, to enroll at Baylor University. Since the defending champ exited, a new favorite enters onto the scene, Aurora Scott (Chesapeake, VA-she is homeschooled). She is a two-time finalist who finished in ninth place at the finals last year. She has three other finalists (Catherine White-11th; Emily Reese-15th; Kathy Kroger-16th) chasing her as well, so it will be another fast one.

Ryan Sheehan finished an impressive 10th place in 1:01:30 at the US 20k Championships held in New Haven, CT. Sheehan is a former PA State Champion in the 3200, who starred at Baldwin HS. He attended Saint Francis Universtiy where he earned All-American status. And now he is with the Hansons Distance Project, along with Brian Sell.

South Boys Foot Locker Pre-season Favorites

The South Boys are lead by Ben Hubers (McEachern HS, GA), he had a consistent year, and then lowered boom at NON with a 3rd place in 4:09.76. He will be chased by two super sophomores Thomas Porter (Mountain View HS, VA) and Billy Matthews (Mountain Brook HS, AL). They finished 1-2, respectively, in last year's Foot Locker South Regional freshman race. And this year they will be in the big show, coming off of their solid track seasons (Porter: 4:23.24/9:19.97; Matthews: 4:21.27/9:24.10), they will be ready to roll. It will be an interesting matchup when the young guns battle the heir apparent.

Midwest Girls Foot Locker Pre-season Favorites

The Dakotas are leading the charge for the Midwest girls. Betsy Bies (Yankton HS, SD) the defending NTN champ is in the hunt. She is the defending regional champ, and was 6th at Foot Locker Finals. So it will be interesting because the Eckert twins (Allison & Krista, Sioux Falls Roosevelt HS, SD) will look to break up her Midwest stranglehold after their strong track seasons. They will face her several times at States, Foot Locker Regionals, Nike Team Nationals, and probably Foot Locker Finals, so they will have several chances to lock horns with Bies. It will be a barnburner with many of the top girls returning back this year for another shot at glory.

Midwest Boys Foot Locker Pre-season Favorites

It will be a big battle up front between Evan Jager and De'Sean Turner. It will be similar to heavyweight title fight. They are the top two returners, and both had excellent track seasons. The thing with Turner is that his team is also ranked 2nd in the NTN Midwest regional rankings. He was one of the few athletes that had opportunity to do the trifecta, Foot Locker Midwest Regionals (10th), NTN (6th), Foot Locker Finals (15th), and he performed admirably. While Jager was 9th at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional, then 9th at Foot Locker Finals. So the battle will be up front, with a free for all battle for the next eight spots.

Northeast Boys Foot Locker Pre-season Favorites

They are saying the Northeast Boys race is unpredictable because there are so many top performers, but all of the top boys, have had lapses in their performances. Paul Springer (Unionville) is one of the top 8 boys listed, after his impressive Spring in which he ran 9:01 in tough conditions at States. It will be an interesting race. The Deep Six Racing team will be there as well. It will be interesting to see how they stack up with the Northeast's elite.
