Nike Outdoor Nationals

Steve Petrosky keeps his streak of High School All-Americans going strong. As his 4x1 finished in sixth place from lane 1. I believe that now gives him 4 to my zero. But that will all change next year, as we mount a charge, and put our name on the map.

Nike Outdoor Nationals had tons of fabulous performances and records.

Distance Festival

Well on Friday we traveled to West Chest for the First Annual Pennsylvania Distance Festival. They have a great facility at West Chester and the weather cooperated with us for most of the evening. The big race of the evening was the mile. We had people entered across the board, Matt Groves (800), Rick Koubek (3000 & Mile), Matt Kisenwether (3000), Anthony Coglianese (3000), Alex Krichels (Mile), and Ian McLaren (Mile). Matt Groves started the evening off with a new open pr and a fourth place finish in a time of 1:58.09. The effort earned him a PennTrackXC.com elite mark. It was close race, and he ran strong.

Next up was Rick Koubek, Matt Kisenwether, and Anthony Coglianese. These guys all ran well. As we finished in first (Rick), third (Matt), and fifth (Anthony). Rick achieved a new pr and a PennTrackXC.com elite standard. He led wire-to-wire. Matt got caught in no-man's land, and ran a tough race. This was the only time in the meet when the rain kicked in. Anthony was in a tight battle, and let a little gap form that costs him over the last two laps.

In the Mile Ian ran 4:38 to establish a new pr, and Rick came back to run 4:42 for a tough double. Matt (Kisenwether) helped pace Alex, and ran with him through a 1000. Alex would go on to run 4:53.

After the races the guys did an impromptu 4x4. Which was as equally impressive as the day's efforts. We went for pizza after the race with Leon Woolford, a teammate of mine, who came out to watch the young guns do battle.

Boulder, Colorado

The Denver Post ran an excellent article on how Boulder, Colorado has become an international magnet for elite distance runners.

According to the Denver Post, "Before the world-record holders and world champions discovered the quirky university town with ideal training conditions, the Disco Dungeon was home for several post-collegiate runners hoping to make the 1980 Olympic team. Before the Bolder Boulder grew into one of the world's biggest road races, the Disco Dungeon was known as a place where runners passing through town were welcome to crash."

It is interesting story of one of America's many great training venues, and how it came to be.
